Swedish O-Easter

Just home from EOC, I jumped right into the Swedish O-easter, which always means a lot of competitions. For me, this year it consisted of 2 relays and a Silva League long distance.

I really enjoy the smaller Swedish spring relays, but last years snowy conditions meant that all of them (!) were cancelled, so this year I have been twice as psyched to run them. It is also really inspiring that we are doing quite well – 5th at Måsen (with me) and 5th at Rånäs (without me). The Ravinen boys are really delivering great runs every single relay!

The weekend started with Stigtomtakavlen, where we got a bit unlucky and lost a lot of time on a few legs. I did a OK run, at least, a bit stressful and some sloppy navigation, but in total quite good (I can’t really complain, since I won the leg with more than 4 minutes…), and we ended up in 9th position, in good competition, so we are quite happy with that.

The weekend continued with a Silva League long distance on the Sunday, which I was looking forward to since it was going to be my first real individual competition of 2014 in Swedish terrain. I decided to start hard, and just try to push all the way, which I must say I managed really well. I did some small mistakes (2 x sloppy compass, 1 x going in the wrong re-entrant – losing about 1 minute in total), but over all it was a really good race, and I ended up winning with a little more than 3 minutes (2 minutes if Thierry had not mispunched the second last control…), which I am really satisfied with.

And then, last but not least (?) Kolmårdskavlen on the Monday, another relay, and with even more good teams entered than at Stigtomta. Looking at team line ups the night before, we concluded that there were about 15 teams that looked stronger than ours, so naturally we set our goal for top 10. We did a solid performance, losing some time on each leg, but mostly picking places, so after 4 (out of 5) legs, Kalle handed me out as 14th, with a few teams just ahead. I did a solid run, but my legs were feeling so bad. Probably one of my worst physical performances of the year, but I guess most people were quite knackered after the long distance the day before, since I ended up winning the leg with 2 minutes and picked to 7th place. Really happy with that!
